Lot 13 WWI/WWII Rifle: The Eddystone Model 1917

Manufactured by Eddystone Arsenal, a division of Remington Arms, the Model 1917 rifle is a favorite among collectors of US military rifles.

Known as the “American Enfield”, the M1917 rifle is chambered for the standard .30-06 Springfield cartridge. Adopted by the U.S. during World War I, this rifle was a modification of the British .303 caliber Enfield design, adapted to fire the standard American service caliber. It was the most widely used rifle by American forces in WWI. It also found use with US forces during WWII, primarily as the arms for mortarmen and artillery men, and rear-echelon troops. Even today, the Danish Sirius Dog Sled Patrol in Greenland still uses the M1917, which performs very reliably in Arctic conditions, as their service weapon.

This particular rifle was made in July, 1918, and is in very good condition, desirable for collectors and shooters alike. It has become popular for collectors because they are harder to acquire, with far fewer of these made than the M1 Garand, the M1 Carbine or the Model 1903 rifle. Includes a period correct rifle sling. This is your chance to own a significant piece of US military history from two world wars.
